About the event
A lightly guided workshop, where Barb will facilitate an introduction into creating mini-landscapes from imagination. We will explore the use of color, overlay, intensity, varying brushstrokes and other techniques to create mini paintings.
All skill levels and creatives can enjoy the workshop!
Enjoy creative exploration and take home for mini-landscape paintings on wood blocks! Initially we will work through a short guided exercise, exploring ideas, colors, brush sizes, brush strokes, intentions, and other factors which will be helpful. Once participants feel ready to proceed to painting on their four wood blocks they can proceed. The blocks are 2" x 2" and make great little desk top or window sill decoration, or mini gifts. The hour and a half workshop will include a reflective and inspirational reading, before we get down to having fun! Join us and explore your creative self and find a new edge for your creative practice.
No art-making experience necessary. Materials are included. Just bring yourselves and enjoy the journey.
Instructor Barbara White facilitate this workshop.
Barb White is the owner of The Edge Wilson gallery and studios in Historic Downtown Wilson, as well as a practicing artist. She has to date, painted almost 1000 mini landscapes, just for fun. She grew up in South Africa and moved to the US in 1985. Barb studied Studio Art at Hanes School of Art through UNC-Chapel Hill’s continuing education program, and has taken ongoing creative workshops in North Carolina and also in South Africa. Her path to working as a professional creative, and confidence to do so, was initiated in 2010 after she started writing her thoughts each morning, and practicing short meditative breathing exercises. This process led to many creative projects and endeavors, culminating in the creation of the The Edge Wilson gallery and studios. These days Barb mostly paints with acrylic, exploring the theme of serenity, unity, ambiguity, and self-expression, using depictions of buddha-like figures and ambiguous faces, often using repurposed materials on hand.
