Workshop at the Edge: Creative Exploration with Maureen O'Neill & Barb White $40.00

Give your spirit the gift of time for creative exploration! Through guided exercises with themes of process and play, meditation and mark-making, and personal journaling, participants will be encouraged to uncover new insights and inspiration. The two-hour workshop will include reflective writing and drawing exercises, guided meditation, collage and more! Join us and explore your creative self, reimagine your work, recharge your art-making spirits and find new edge for your creative practice.

No art-making experience necessary. Materials are included, including a journal book and pen.

Instructors Barbara White and Maureen O’Neill will co-facilitate this workshop.

Maureen O’Neill grew up in Holyoke, Massachusetts and received her B.F.A. in Painting from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and her M.F.A. in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. She is the director of exhibitions and educational programming for the Barton College Art Galleries and Assistant Professor of Art in the Department of Art, Barton College. She was the recipient of the Lincoln Financial Faculty Member of the Year Award in 2021. She serves on the Wilson Arts Board of Directors and leads workshops in drawing meditation and classes in pastel drawing.

Barb White is the owner of The Edge Wilson gallery and studios in Historic Downtown Wilson, as well as a practicing artist. She grew up in South Africa and moved to the US in 1985. Barb studied Studio Art at Hanes School of Art through UNC-Chapel Hill’s continuing education program, and has taken ongoing creative workshops in North Carolina and also in South Africa. Her path to working as a professional creative, and confidence to do so, was initiated in 2010 after she started practicing meditative breathing exercises at the start of each day. This process led to many creative projects and endeavors, culminating in the creation of the The Edge Wilson gallery and studios.  These days Barb mostly paint with acrylic, exploring the theme of serenity, unity, ambiguity, and self-expression, using depictions of buddhas and ambiguous faces, often using repurposed materials on hand.
