ARTIST STATEMENT

 

Dee Dee Oliver is a visual artist based in Wilson, North Carolina. Her work is characterized by a vibrant palette and expressive compositions. As a process artist, Oliver takes an intuitive approach to mixed media, by blending a variety of materials and techniques to create dimensional, textured works. 

Common Thread is a series that pays tribute to the artists that have shaped her creative journey. Working from her home studio, Oliver draws inspiration from nature while exploring the balance between freedom and discipline. Her use of bold colors and movement along with expressive mark-making, creates a dynamic energy in evoking the ceaseless rhythms of the natural world.

BIOGRAPHY

 

Since 2019, Oliver has served as the Visual Arts coordinator for Wilson Arts. Prior to joining Wilson Arts, she worked as a freelance photographer and studied ceramics and collage at Barton College.  Her work is held in private collections throughout the United States and internationally and is featured in a public art installation in downtown Greenville, North Carolina.
